Amazon Editorial Review
Like the animated series it’s based on, Aeon Flux is the kind of sci-fi that’s best appreciated by the MTV generation. It’s a serious attempt at stylized, futuristic action/adventure (the title character, played by Charlize Theron, is essentially a female James Bond for the cyberpunk era) and taken for what it is, it’s not all that bad. The action takes place in the year 2415, four centuries after a virus nearly decimated the human race, leaving only five million survivors in a utopian city called Bregna. Aeon belongs to the Monicans, a secret rebel resistance force that is struggling to destroy the Goodchild regime led by its namesake, Trevor Goodchild (Martin Csokas), the ruler of Bregna and a descendant of the man who found a cure for the deadly virus. As instructed by the Handler (Frances McDormand, gamely playing along in ridiculous sci-fi regalia), Aeon is assigned to assassinate Goodchild, but there are deeper secrets to be discovered, and conspiracies to be foiled. This leads director Karyn Kusama (who fared much better with her debut feature Girlfight) to indulge in all sorts of routine action and fast-paced gunplay, but the elusive pleasures of Aeon Flux are mostly found in the sleek athleticism of Theron and costar Sophie Okonedo (as a fellow Monican), who commit themselves 100% to roles that are dramatically flat yet physically dynamic.

Other highlights include Aeon’s high-tech gadgetry (including an eyeball that doubles as a microsocope) and the amusing sight of Pete Postlethwaite in a costume resembling a construction-site disposal tube, but Flux fans may wonder what happened to the surreal, chromium sheen future that gave the MTV series its visionary appeal. As a live-action feature, Aeon Flux is a miscalculated exercise in cheesy style and dour tone, but it’s entertaining enough to earn a small cadre of admirers. --Jeff Shannon

Amazon Customer Reviews:

better than expected - (3/5)
enjoyable sci fi action thriller that has the attraction of charlize theron in skimpy outfits but its also a fun fluffy film thats good clean fun

Brillant - (5/5)
i only bought this film on a off chance, now it is my favourite film. I don't just like the action in this film, but i love the connection between the characters and the storyline.
5 stars all the way.

Possibly not one to watch over and over again - (3/5)
After reading the 1 star reviews on here I though I better add something of an opinion because although not the best sci-fi film ever it doesn't deserve just one star. I found the acting to be fine, people who complain about the acting should perhaps stick to more gritty realism films. One of my favourite films is Star Wars but you probably wouldn't say Mark Hamill's acting is awesome either, I can think of other classic sci-fi which suffer from some slightly dodgy acting, but that doesn't make them bad films. The story of Aeon Flux is one of cloning after a virus wipes out 99% of the population. In that respect there is serious sci-fi credibility. It does stretch the imagination in other respects and there are some strange moments when the film seems to lose the plot but after watching I wasn't baffled by the whole premise like some reviewers. Perhaps they should stick to Disney. It doesn't get 5 stars as I cannot see myself watching it again in a hurry unlike the aforementioned Star Wars. It also loses another star for some silly moments such as the explosive balls which roll around in response to Aeons whilstling and the fact that there is little backstory to the characters. However as a one off sci-fi watch I found my evening quite well spent.

"Why do I know you? Why?" - (4/5)
What a surprise this movie was! I never intended to watch this film, but when a friend lent me the DVD I decided to go ahead and try it out, expecting an action flick with a simple plot, and not much else. Instead I found a superb story with enough intrigue and suspense to keep our interest intact throughout its duration, and some nice action to boot.

The action takes place in the twenty-fifth century, 400 years after civilization was almost wiped out by a virus and only some survived thanks to a discovery by Trevor Goodchild. The survivors live in a fortified city called Bregna and are monitored at all times from a central command. There is a group, called Monicans, that believes that something is not right in this society, and they have sent Aeon to murder chairman Goodchild. Up to this point, it all looks like straightforward science fiction, but when Aeon and Goodchild meet, things will get complicated, and a rich and enthralling storyline surfaces.

There are several things I liked about this movie apart from its outstanding plot. The futuristic city presented in the film was craftily created, and I could not help feeling as if I was looking at a modern version of Ancient Rome. I also enjoyed the action scenes, which involve a considerable degree of acrobatic skill. In this sense, I would say that there were some similarities with "The Matrix", and even the story line can be thought of as comparable to this masterpiece. Finally, I think that Charlize Theron delivered a very good performance, which should put her in the short-list of successful female action figures, such as Lara Croft.

It is always great when I start watching a movie without any expectations of it being very good and I end up having one hell of a time. People that enjoy science fiction with a good amount of action and complex plots will definitely have a similar experience.

sci fi great !! - (5/5)
after seeing some of the reviews on here , i was a bit worried the film was going to be a let down.but after watching it i was pleasantly surprised ... a great sci-fi film ...just one picky thing i thought the ending was a bit too quick !! well worth buying !!
